Posture Pilates teaches the Body Control Pilates Method which was founded in 1995. Body Control Pilates is the leading trainer of Pilates teachers in the U.K. and is Europe’s largest professional Pilates organisation. The guiding principle was, and remains, to make the benefits of Pilates available to all through high quality teaching that is both safe and effective.
Body Control Pilates is unique in the way that it prepares the body for the classical Pilates exercises created by Joseph Pilates. The preparation is critical as we need to bear in mind that many of Joseph Pilates regular clients were gymnasts and dancers who were extremely fit. Body Control Pilates believed that the average person would not be able to follow the ‘full mat’ program, as created by Joseph Pilates, without injury and so they broke down the original exercises in order for them to be taught step by step, layering on the skills needed to ultimately do the ‘full mat’. They have also created new exercises, based on his principles, which help teach these skills and which give clients the strength and flexibility they need to perform the more complex movements. As clients progress they learn good biomechanics, which help improve posture and overall strength and flexibility.
